Practicing without an account
You never need an account to use Loma. Your progress is kept in your own browser, on your own device, and Loma doesn’t know who you are. To check an answer, Loma’s server grades it and sends back right or wrong; the answer isn’t stored.
Messages and reports you send
If you send a message with the help button (?), or report an answer you think was marked wrong by mistake, Loma stores what you sent (your message, or the answer and any note) and which page or problem it was about. It doesn’t include your name or account, and it’s used only to answer you and fix problems. Messages are kept until they’ve been dealt with, then deleted.
If you choose to sign in
Signing in saves your practice to your account so it follows you to any device. Loma keeps:
- your name and email address, from the sign-in;
- your practice history: which problems you tried, your answers, whether they were right, and when;
- the outcomes you marked “Passed in class.”
It’s used to show you your own progress. Loma’s founder can see the list of accounts (name, email and when each was created) and totals combined across all signed-in students, such as how many got a skill right, without names, emails or answers, to improve Loma’s problems and explanations. Your instructor doesn’t see your account or your results, and Loma doesn’t sell or share them. Everything saved to your account is kept until you delete the account.
Cookies
Loma sets no advertising or tracking cookies. If you sign in, the sign-in service sets the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to tell whether you are. Your theme choice and, signed out, your practice progress are kept in your browser’s own storage, not in cookies, and never leave your device.
Deleting your account
Signed in, open the account menu at the top right, choose Account settings, and follow the steps under Delete account. Your account and everything saved to it are deleted right away. Copies can remain in the database’s backups for a limited time, until those backups expire.
How your data is protected
Loma runs on outside providers for hosting, its database, sign-in and error reporting. Each one handles your data only to provide that service to Loma, and all of them are in the United States. Each is independently audited for security (SOC 2), encrypts data in transit and at rest, and lets Loma delete your data when you delete your account. Sign-in is handled by a dedicated identity provider: Loma never sees or stores your password, and error reports carry no names, emails or answers.
Who is responsible, and your rights
Loma is run by its founder, named in the copyright notice at the bottom of every page, who is responsible for the data described here. You can see everything Loma holds about you under Account settings, and delete it there. For anything else, including a copy of your data or a correction, use the help button (?) and we’ll reply within five business days. Loma is for college students; if you are under 13, please don’t create an account.
Questions
Use the help button (?) at the top of any page. See also the terms of use and the accessibility statement.
